The letter book contains copies of official correspondence, orders, and reports of the Missouri Extra Battalion of Light Artillery, documenting Meriwether Clark's attempts to secure necessary equipment from the War Department, the organization and equipment of the Battalion, and the Battalion's decision to serve in the Mexican War.
